Privacy Policy

Plain summary: We collect only what we need to give you a useful recommendation. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or store sensitive details beyond your session. Your income figure is never saved.
1. Who we are
AutoRight is a vehicle recommendation service operated by AutoRight ("we," "us," or "our"). We can be reached at support@autoright.org.
2. What information we collect
We collect information in two ways: information you provide directly, and information collected automatically.
Information you provide:
- Interview answers — your vehicle preferences, ownership timeline, daily use, terrain, fuel preference, passengers, cargo, and brand preferences. These are used solely to generate your match.
- Location — city, state, or postal code. Used to estimate insurance costs, registration fees, and local inventory proximity. Not stored beyond your session unless you request price alerts.
- Income range — a proportional figure, not an exact number, used only to flag whether a match exceeds a healthy cost threshold. This is never saved to any database or log.
- Email address — only if you choose to set price alerts or save-and-wait notifications. Optional. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Free-text notes — your answer to the optional final question. Used only within your session to improve matching. Not stored or shared.
Information collected automatically:
- Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, page visited, timestamp). Retained for up to 30 days for security and performance purposes.
- We do not use advertising trackers, third-party analytics pixels, or behavioral profiling tools.
3. How we use your information
- To generate your vehicle match report
- To estimate costs, insurance, and inventory proximity relevant to your location
- To send price and availability alerts you specifically requested
- To process your payment securely via Stripe (see section 5)
- To respond to support requests sent to our email
We do not use your information for advertising, retargeting, or to build a profile for sale or transfer to third parties.
4. How long we keep your data
- Session data (interview answers, location, income) — kept in your browser's session storage only. Cleared when your browser tab closes or session ends. Not stored server-side.
- Alert email addresses — retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
- Payment records — retained as required by Stripe and applicable financial regulations (typically 7 years). AutoRight does not store card numbers; Stripe handles all payment data.
- Server logs — up to 30 days.
5. Payment processing
All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. AutoRight never receives or stores your card number, CVV, or full billing details. Stripe's privacy policy governs how your payment data is handled. By purchasing a report or subscription, you agree to Stripe's terms of service.
6. Sharing your information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Stripe — for payment processing (plan type and session identifier only)
- Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users
- Business transfer — if AutoRight is acquired or merges with another entity, you will be notified before your data is transferred and given the option to delete it
Affiliate inventory links (Cars.com, AutoTrader) open in a new tab. Those sites have their own privacy policies. We receive no data about you from those clicks.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Request access to personal data we hold about you
- Request deletion of your email address and alert preferences
- Opt out of any future communications
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

8. California residents (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of that information, and opt out of the sale of personal information. AutoRight does not sell personal information. To submit a request, contact support@autoright.org.
9. Children's privacy
AutoRight is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Cookies
AutoRight uses only essential browser storage (sessionStorage) necessary for the questionnaire to function. We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking cookies, or persistent cookies that follow you across other websites.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
